David L. Scherrer
Senior Pastor
What year you joined the staff at 4Cs:
2004
What you do at 4Cs:
As Senior Pastor I am responsible for overall church leadership, preaching, staff and ministry management. I am responsible for executing the vision and the strategic plan of the church. I pray and seek God’s guidance for 4Cs and intercede for our members, seeking to expand the Kingdom of God through our fellowship.
Life History:
I was born and raised in California. I graduated from Willamette University in 1997, BS in PSYC, Graduated from Oregon State in 1983 with a MS in Counseling. I am working on a PhD in Psychology scheduled to be completed in 2009 or 2010. I worked 22 years with YFC and that ministry took my family to Portland, Or and then to NY City. I worked 11 years as the founder and president of Worth Waiting For, Inc. I have been a psychotherapist in private practice for 15 years.
I have been married for over 30 years and have two children and one grandchild. He has co-authored three books in a series entitled: Worth Waiting For, which includes How to Talk to Your Kids About Sexuality , Fearless Love - Senior High Curricula, and Celebrating Changes – Middle School Curricula. I have several more in me if I can get them out, including a Children’s book series of stories that is designed to teach Theology to children.
What you enjoy doing on your day off:
On my days off I tend to spend time with my family, work around the house and work on my PhD classes, all of which I generally enjoy (chores aside). What I would also like to do on my days off is play frisbee, do some bird watching, maybe hike or golf or enjoy good conversation with a friend or a good book.
List one of your most interesting memories/experiences:
I have met with Presidents and Kings in my Worth Waiting for Ministries and traveled to Asia and Africa with that ministry. I have ministered to teens in East Harlem, NYC, Anchorage AK, Honolulu, HI and Raleigh NC and thousands of points in between, traveling to all but four states. I have climbed mountains and learned to scuba dive. I would say that the highlights of my life though includes March 13, 1976 when my bride said “I do,” when I was given the opportunity to officiate over the baptism of my children and witness the birth of my first grandchild.
What is something that not many people know about you:
I still hold the record of the mile run at my high school that I set in 1972 (4 minutes 23 seconds). They started running the 1600 meter race rather than the mile soon after I graduated so that has helped me keep the mile record!!
